Influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations will begin in the Vantaa and Kerava wellbeing services county on 5 October 2026. Appointment booking for vaccinations will open on 8 September 2026.

Are you in the target group for seasonal vaccinations?

Check below whether you belong to a target group eligible for a free influenza or COVID-19 vaccination. Please note that the target groups for influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations are not the same. 

Influenza vaccinations 

Influenza vaccination is recommended for the following target groups, for whom the vaccination is free of charge: 

  • Pregnant women. 
  • People aged 65 and over. 
  • Children aged 6 months to 6 years. 
  • People starting their conscript service. 
  • People living or staying long-term in institutional settings. 
  • Social and healthcare and pharmaceutical services personnel who participate in the direct care or support of patients and clients. 

If you do not belong to a target group eligible for a free influenza vaccination, you can obtain the vaccine at your own expense. You can request a vaccine prescription from the health centre, buy the vaccine from a pharmacy, and book an appointment for vaccination at the health centre. You can also get the vaccination at your own expense at a private medical clinic, through occupational health services, or at a pharmacy. 

COVID-19 vaccinations 

A booster vaccination is recommended for the following target groups, for whom the vaccination is free of charge: 

  • Older people living in care homes. 
  • Older people receiving regular organised home care. 
  • Older people receiving informal care (supported by an informal caregiver). 
  • Everyone aged 80 and over. 
  • Severely immunocompromised people of all ages.

A booster vaccination is recommended for these groups regardless of the number of previous COVID-19 vaccinations or COVID-19 infections they have had.  

A booster vaccination is also provided free of charge to: 

  • Everyone aged 75–79. 

For healthy people under 75, the primary series provides good protection against severe COVID-19 disease, and booster doses are not needed. 

The impact of previous illness or the previous COVID-19 vaccine dose on booster doses 

It is recommended that there be at least six months between the previous COVID-19 vaccine dose and the booster dose.

If you had COVID-19 in late summer (August) or autumn 2026, you do not need a booster dose this season for protection. However, if necessary, the vaccine may be given for a specific reason based on the treating physician’s individual assessment. 

Primary series of COVID-19 vaccinations

The primary series of COVID-19 vaccinations is recommended regardless of previous COVID-19 illness. For someone who has had the disease, the vaccine is recommended no earlier than 6 months after the illness. The primary series vaccinations are free of charge. 

  • Everyone aged 18 and over 
  • 1 dose  
  • 1 dose  
  • 2 doses, minimum interval 6 months   
  • People who have received a stem cell transplant 
  • 2–3 doses according to the treating physician’s individual assessment.

COVID-19 vaccines

In Finland, the Comirnaty vaccine is primarily used for COVID-19 vaccinations.  

For those over 12 years old, the Bimervax vaccine is also available. It is recommended for people for whom Comirnaty is not suitable, for example due to a severe allergy or another medical reason. 

If you think you cannot receive the Comirnaty vaccine, contact your care team. The suitability of the vaccine product will be assessed by phone.

Where can you get a seasonal vaccination?

Health centres and maternity and child health clinics 

Appointments open on 8 September 2026. Vaccinations will be given starting 5 October 2026.  

  • Residents of the Vantaa and Kerava area can book an appointment at any health centre.  
  • Families with children of child health clinic age are primarily vaccinated at the clinic. 
  • Only influenza vaccinations are given at the child health clinic. 
  • At the health centre, both influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations can be given during the same visit. 
  • COVID-19 vaccinations for children under 12 are provided centrally at Martinlaakso Health Centre. 
  • If you are not in a group eligible for a free vaccination, but you have purchased your own vaccine, you can book an appointment at a health centre to have it administered. 
  • Later in the year, vaccinations will also be available without an appointment. Information about vaccination sites will be updated on this page. To avoid possible queuing, we primarily recommend booking an appointment.

Health centres 

  • Cancel your appointment if you cannot make it. For an appointment not cancelled, an adult will be charged EUR 73.70. 

Maternity and child health clinics 

  • In Maisa 8 September 2026–24 January 2027.

COVID-19 vaccinations for children under 12 

  • By calling tel. 09 4191 1011 starting 29 September 2026. 

Influenza vaccinations in school and student health care 

  • Only influenza vaccinations are provided in school and student health care. 
  • In school health care, vaccinations are given to pupils who belong to a risk group due to illness or treatment. 
  • In student health care, vaccinations are given to upper secondary level students who belong to a risk group due to illness or treatment, or who study in the social and health care field. 
  • Public health nurses will inform pupils/students about vaccination arrangements. 

Seasonal vaccinations in hospital services and for clients of home care and care units  

  • In hospital services (Katriina, Kerava and Peijas), the vaccination of hospital patients is handled by the staff of these units. 
  • The vaccination of clients in 24-hour and community-based housing, as well as in home care, is handled by the staff of these units.  
  • A separate appointment for vaccination is not necessary.
